The Damage-Free Detangling Method
1. Apply a leave-in conditioner or prep spray: Post-Wash.
Wet hair is in its weakest, most elastic state. Before touching it with a brush, mist a leave-in treatment (like J Beverly Hills Detangle or Blue Moisture Mist) across your mid-lengths and ends. This provides a "slip" factor that works in tandem with the brush.
2. Always start at the bottom (Ends): Safety Step.
Never drag a brush straight down from your scalp. Isolate a section of hair, hold it firmly above the knot with your free hand (to absorb the tension), and gently brush out the last 2–3 inches at the very bottom.
3. Work upward in increments: Progression.
Once the ends are completely free of tangles, move your brush up to the mid-shaft. Brush downward through the clean ends you just cleared. Keep moving higher up the hair strand section by section.
4. Finish with a full root-to-tip glide: Full Pass.
Only when the entire length is clear should you place the brush at the scalp. Smooth it all the way down to the ends. Because of the wide paddle base, this will quickly align the hair cuticles and prep it beautifully for drying.
